Is it possible to reinstall windows on my old hd for it to work in my new build?

I'm going to build a new computer and I wanted to reuse my old hard drive, but after reading around I found out that I can't resuse it. So I was wondering if I buy another copy of windows and put it into the drive when I boot up my new comp, will it work? And if it does, will it erase all my old data?

I recommend to put the stuff you want into another hard drive, and then formatting the old one. Then it will be easy to reinstall the OS.

You might get away with reinstalling from your existing windows copy since you will only run it on one PC at a time.

You see, this is from an old prebuilt computer. So the hard drive came with windows on the disk. So I might as well just back it up and buy a retail copy of windows.

Yeah in that case it would probably be best to get a new copy.

I actually found out that I can burn my windows .iso onto a disk and when I need to install windows on the new build, I put the disc in and click repair. Just in case though, I'm going to back up my hard drive.
