Hello,

I just upgraded to a 7870, but for some reason it only runs at x8 1.1 and occasionally at 2.0. Asus website says it supports up to x16?

Did I get a bad card?

delete the old video cards drivers. Install Catalyst Control Center. Have CCC update the drivers.

If you're checking that at idle, that's totally normal, the card downclock itself when idling (power saving feature) and downclocking it reduce the bandwith needed and then (again for power saving) the PCI-e slot reduce voltage and the number of link (PCI-e 2 have double lanes than PCI-e 1 so it return to 1 to save power)

Make sure to check if the card is at PCI-e 2 (or 3 if you have Ivy or Haswell) when it's on load (use furmark or heaven) if the card is at 2 when doing something then it's ok

I think I found the problem. There are 16 little chips on the card where it seats on the mobo. 2 are gone. I am assuming this is the x16

Well then take a look at a photo of your card on the internet and compare to your card.

Which brand?
