adding usb ports using internal header on Z87x-UD3H

What would I need to buy to be able to utilize the USB internal headers in this board, so that I can add additional USB devices?

The board only has 6 usb3 ports at the back, and allows adding usb3/2 using the internal header. I want around 5 usb 2 for camera, keyboard, mouse, cellphone, xbox360 controller, then reserve 5 usb3 for external drives.

Worse case, I can just plug the 5 usb2 devices into 5 usb3 ports, and use the last usb3 port for external usb3 drives. I'd prefer 2 ports for usb3 drives though, so I'd still need at least 1 more usb3 port. What would I need? I believe there are brackets with ports that I can just plug into the internal usb3 header? Where can I get them? Thanks in advance for the help.

For 3 of those you can get yourself a decent usb3 powered hub with more ports. Not to mention spending 45 bucks on 6 usb3 ports is kinda dumb.

Alternatively if you don't need the speed increase of usb3 you can get some usb2 hubs for cheaper. Though that would be additional cable running from your pc to wherever.

Thanks guys. Are the pins of all these brackets the same, meaning will they all fit the internal header of the z87x-ud3h? If not, where can I determine this, as I don't see it in the board's specs?

I thought about this after I sent my first post... I guess it's cheaper and wiser to just reserve 3 of my built-in usb3 ports for my usb3.0 ext. drives. this leaves me w/ 3 usb3 ports, which I can use for 3 (out of 5) of the usb2 devices. Then just get a usb2.0 bracket for the remaining 2 usb2 devices.

usb 3 headers are standard. Theres no weird models you have to worry about like USB micro/mini/etc. Any usb3 header will work.

Same with usb2, not usb3 header into usb2 port though. (sorry if I made that confusing. USB 3 is 19pin and usb2 is 9(nine, not a typo))

Thanks mouse24. I guess then I'll just look for a usb2 bracket w/ 4 ports for my slow usb2 devices, and use the on-board usb3 ports for usb3 drives. Cheaper and I wouldn't compromise usb3 speed (though it's not much).

While at it, is there a speed difference using the brackets versus the pci cards? I guess they made those pci cards only for those with boards that don't have enough headers?

Hmm, I actually don't know if theres any real world speed difference using onboard vs PCI. I wouldn't think so but I could be wrong. PCI only has a theoretical max of 133MB/s and USB has a theoretical max of 35MB/s lets assume you have 4 devices that are maxing that out on each port. (worse case scenario that you will almost never see) 4x35=140MB/s.

So yeah its nothing you will care about or even notice if it happens.
