I recently bought a new PSU for my pc to replace my Generic PSU. The generic PSU still works only when the video card is not connected.

I installed the New PSU and the LED light comes on from the mobo. I try to start it won't work, no beep, no fan start, nothing. I made sure the all necessary connectors are connected.
. I replaced it back with my Generic PSU and the pc run was fine.

MOBO: Asus p5s mx se (2007)

I'm thinking the PSU is not compatible with mobo? What do you think? Maybe an issue with the PSU or MOBO itself?
Please advise. Thank you all

Did you connect the 24 pin to the mobo and the 6/8 pin to power CPU on the mobo?

Hello Avenseth thanks for replying. Yes I have connected the 24 pin. I guess that's why the led lights is on. I have a 4pin socket on the upper left of mobo. THe PSU has a 4+4 pin and i used 1 of them there.
Its very odd that my generic PSU work while this one doesn't probably a faulty but maybe a short is preventing me from booting?

Hmm I tried the Paper clip test on both PSU(Generic and Cougar SL 500) . Surprisingly, The Test worked for the generic PSU. The Fans turned on when I inserted the unit to the wall socket. I tried the test on the Cougar and no movement at all. I made sure that the switch was turn on.
I'll have to return the item and hopefully its not faulty this time. I'll have them test it on another unit just to make sure
Thanks for answering :)

[Solved]

The PSU was faulty all along. I had it replace with the another unit with the same name and it was working great . Paper clip test is useful :)

Tip: Try the new unit first on the retail store and make sure its working fine to avoid wasting time.
