I have a corsair 500r cabite case with fans fitted. The fans have 3 pin connectors. My motherboard is an asus Z87-Pro with 4 pin sockets- pin 1is gnd,2 cha fan pwr, 3-cha fan in and 4is +5v. do I need to replace the fans for ones with 4 pins oor can they be used
Thanks

Motherboards are designed for 3 or 4 pin fans. It doesn't matter which type of fan you choose (it can be a 3 or 4 pin fan), it'll fit on the mobo. There are special grooves on the fan connector that will allow you to connect the fan to the mobo correctly.

If you have a 4 pin mobo then the mobo can control the fans better. Many builders rely on their own fan speed settings instead of mobo settings. Make sense? If not I can explain better.

It will work just fine, as the pins provide provide the same functions. As the fan connector doesn't have a fourth pin connector, it won't have PWM support to control the fan speed though, so they will be constantly running at maximum rotational speed.
