When I play any game like Fallout, or Skyrim after a certain amount of time my display goes black but my system volume is still on. What could be the problem?

Solution

I'd check the connections at the monitor, graphics cards, and replace the cord if possible and see if the results can be replicated. If you monitoring your GPU temps they would be useful to determine if its overheating. Also if you're overclocked try returning to stock speeds. You should be able to override your fan controller and max it to 90-100% to see if that solves your issue as well.

When my GPU has overheated before it has caused a system crash or artifacts not a black screen.

IK this is two yrs ago but here one solution!
I have the same issue i believe that it over heating i checked my video card and would get pretty hot then cut off added a new fan and boom fixed the problem was running 60 degrees Celsius which is almost the max it can do for mine now 40 Degrees Celsius So yeah it's most likely overheating
