Possible Hard Drive Failure

Hi
I bought a Dell Inspiron 15 about two weeks ago and I started hearing clicking noises. I restarted and ran the CheckDisk and it stopped. Should I be worried about a hard drive failure in the future.

In Properties, it says the hard drive is a Hitachi.

backup all you data asap!

if you ever think you go hdd problem backup your data. if you unable to run a full check disk then you most likely have a faulty hdd. i would take it back and get it swapped out or take it somewhere to have the hdd tested.

Thanks for the quick response. It's moderately new, so there is not that much important data yet. I backed up files I needed. Should I go to Best Buy or Dell to replace the hard drive?

i live in the uk so not sure what your rights are where you live. but i would take the laptop in it's box with all the packing (if you still have it) and go back to best buy and see if they will swap it out for another one.

if you can't take it back to best buy then give dell a call and get a RMA on your laptop.

If you got it from BestBuy two weeks ago, take it there.

Did you create the Restore disks when you first got it? If not...they will either sell it to you as part of the drive replacement, or just replace the bare drive and send you on your way.

Yes. I did backup the OS to a USB Flash Drive.

What do you mean "backup the OS"? Created via whatever Restore method Dell includes? Or just make a copy on the USB?

I used the Dell Backup Software. I have tried it and it is bootable.

Then you're fine. Take it back, and they'll probably put in a new drive. They may or may not send it off to do that.
