Dell Inspiron 531S
Comes with an onboard vga out port.
I added GeForce 7600GS in PCIE slot.
Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core
2GB Ram
Vista 32bit Home Premium, SP2, very fresh install.

The case is too small for the Geforce, so I opened up the case and made room.
I have a TV plugged into the S-Video out, and a CRT monitor in the VGA port.
The screen turns black for anywhere from half a second to 7 or so seconds, at random intervals. The problem seems to go away for a little while after I install drivers. I've tried two different NVIDIA drivers, 306.97 and 307.83, as well as letting windows update find a driver. The problem also goes away if I uninstall the drivers and just go with the basic vga drivers that take over when you have nothing else installed. I have tried changing resolutions and refresh rates, they don't seem to help. I also noticed that the TV does NOT flash at all, even when the CRT is.
Does anybody have a clue what's going on and better yet, how to fix it?
Thanks!

I may have figured this out, at least partially. It seems to have something to do with the drivers detecting the monitor. If the monitor is on and the computer wakes up from standby, it seems to be when the problem starts. Once the computer is up and running, if I turn off the monitor for a few seconds and then turn it back on, it seems to detect it and the problem goes away. Sometimes I even hear the bong-bing noise that is the default sound for hot swappable devices like USB devices, etc.
I hope this helps somebody, it seems like nobody else had anything to say about the problem. Maybe it's just too rare a problem?
