Destination Filename too long (Folder I don't recognize named Proxies?)

I am copying all my family pictures off an external NTFS hard drive to the root C: drive (also NTFS). When I do it copies most of the stuff but then shows up with this error message:

Notice how there are many of them and each one when I click skip is called Proxies and has the same creation date which by my calculations was created sometime in the middle of the file transfer. When I skip all of them I searched the source folder for "Proxies" but there is nothing there!

I thought this would be safe to ignore but then I checked the properties of the newly copied folder and compared it to the properties of the source and they are over 200mb different.

Does anyone know what is going on here?

N:\Backups\Pratt Family Pictures\(a whole bunch of folders)

Destination filepath is C:\PrattFamilyPictures so it is even shorter.

I think I found the problem
C:\AAAAA Pratt Family Pictures Merge\N 2tb\Pratt Family Pictures\2011 Nov Macbook Pro Movies\iMovie Projects.localized\first vlog.rcproject\Proxies\~%2FMovies%2FiMovie%20Events%2Elocalized%2FNew%20Event%2FMOV019%2Emp4

And there is a whole bunch more like this. Looks like some iMovie source files have HORRENDOUSLY long names. I still don't understand why I can't copy them if they seem to exist ok on the external drive because.

Im going to double check the file path again.

Because it can't create that full path all at once.
