Ram not registering when seated sequentially.

Hey everyone. So, the thread title basically says what my problem is. I have 4x4 gb ram cards, all GSkill Ripjaws series and an Asus P8Z77-V Pro motherboard running on Windows 7 64bit Home Premium sp1. After running into some posting errors with the motherboard about a month ago, I got an RMA for the motherboard, sent it in and got it replaced, and the posting issue was fixed. Simultaneous to that problem, I'd noticed about a day before the post issue occurred that my bios (not just windows) was only recognizing 8 out of the 16 gigs of ram. (I've used this machine for a year now, and it had always recognized all 16 gigs.) So, I did some quick tests on the ram, removing cards and changing slots, and eventually determined that two cards must have died on me, and sent those in.

I just received my new cards and installed them, only to find that the bios was still only recognizing 8 gigs. This time I did exhaustive tests on the ram and each slot and determined the following: Each card is able to be recognized by the bios as 4 gigs. Each slot can also read ram. I can get to 8 gigs, but the issue comes when adding another card, and what I found was that, if ram is seated according to -

[A] [C] [D] where A, B, C and D are the four ram slots on the motherboard, that:

-Seating Ram into A and B only yield 4 gigs
-Seating Ram into A and C yield 8 gigs
-Seating Ram into C and D only yield 4 gigs
-Seating Ram into A and D yield 8 gigs
-Seating Ram into A, B and D only yield 8 gigs
-Seating Ram into A, C and D only yield 8 gigs and finally
-Seating Ram into A, B, C and D still only yield 8 gigs.

Hopefully all of that made sense. Also, I did run windows memory diagnostic and, unsurprisingly, it did not find any errors. Thanks for the help!

  2. Confirm in your motherboard manual that the board supports all 4 slots occupied with your specific memory type. In reading through your manual there are many un-supported configs.

    I'd used four of these cards with this same motherboard to a total of 16 gigs for about a year before the problem arose, so unless I'm missing something (which is entirely possible) that shouldn't be an issue.

  7. So you have two sets? Set the DRAM to 1600, ensure timings are correct, raise DRAM voltage to 1.55, and raise VCCSA voltage to 1.10
  8. I do have two sets. DRAM is set to 1600 and I raised DRAM voltage to 1.55 and VCCSA to 1.10, but I'm not sure which timings are correct.
  9. Those should be 9-9-9-24 and CR either 2T or 2N depending on the letter designation (basically 2)
  10. Okay, I changed those times. They had been at 11-11-11-28. CR was already on 2.
  11. Give it a shot, may need a couple more changes, but with these RJs it may do it

  15. If the CMOS reset doesn't work then sounding like (hopefully) a short maybe else prob the mobo (bad lanes/pipes or maybe bad CPU (or bent pins/debris in socket)....might want to bench it and troubleshoot..see my guide here:

  16. Hey, sorry for the delayed reply, my internet has been down for a couple of days. CMOS reset didn't work, I'll try following the guide here in a minute. In the meantime though, while my internet was down, on a whim I ran speccy, and speccy saw all 16 gigs of ram. If you think it would be helpful, I could post the speccy report from the RAM results.

  20. Yeah, when I reset the CMOS it switched back to 11-11-11. I'll go change it back and then put out a new speccy.

    Hoping to avoid it but may want to run Memtest on each stick individually to see if any bad (maybe only 3-5 passes of memtest on each)...and it's possible it the mobo or the CPU (or the pins in the CPU socket)
