First build need help - 660 ti vs 760

Hi guys,

I just ordered all the parts for my first build but I am unsure which gpu to choose. I'm torn between the gtx 660 ti and the newer gtx 760. I am on a budget and I can only buy from amazon.

I will be using my pc for a fair amount of gaming but not loads. I can get the Asus GeForce GTX660 TI-DC2-2GD5 for £180 which is £60 cheaper than any of the 760's on Amazon, would you say the extra £60 is worth it?

I know the 760 will be more future proof but does the extra £60 really justify a few extra frames? I just want to be able to play most games on ultra without going below 40fps and some newer games like crysis 3 on high with 40 fps, would the 660ti be enough for that? Also I will probably overclock which ever one i get.

Here is my build so far...

asus z87 pro motherboard

8gb corsair vengeance 2133 ram

corsair carbide 500r case

i7 4770k

corsair tx 650

1tb hd (plan to get ssd when i can afford it)

Thanks.

Well why do you need the i7? You could have dropped that for the i5, and grabbed something like the GTX 770 with the money saved. Also, you won't see a difference between 1600MHz RAM and 2133MHz RAM when it comes to gaming. I don't mean to be carping, just for future reference. And if there is that much of a price difference between the cards, then grab the 660ti. Here in the states, the 760 and 660ti are around the same price, so the 760 is a better deal. But in your case, grab the 660ti.

It's not worth £60 (it's only around 5-6% faster on average) but you can get a better price than £240.

Dabs have a GTX760 at £195. Have you already got the RAM? 2133MHz isn't going to show any benefit over 1600MHz so you could save a bit of money there. And yeah both cards will be able to deliver that level of performance (well, close to it in Crysis 3).

I went with the i7 as I do a fair amount of editing and wanted the extra power. As for the ram it was only £5 more expensive than the 1600 mhz corsair vengeance so i went for it .I think I will take your advice and go with the 660 ti, £60 seems way to much just for a few extra frames.

Thanks.

I am aware that there are other sites with much better deals, but I'm to young to work and I'm using the money which I earned from a gpt site to buy everything and they only order from Amazon which kid of sucks.

Thanks anyway.

Ok then, in that case, sweet. And yes, the performance per pound of the 760 in your case is awful.

It stands for get paid to site. It's basically a site you use to make money by completing offers and referring people. I use points2shop, they have a pretty good referral system where you can earn up to $1.50 for each US or UK member that signs up and completes an offer using your ref link, plus 15% of there lifetime offer earnings. It takes a while to get the hang off it, but when you start to get a decent amount or referrals you will be surprised what you can earn :)

Haha nice! I do already have a job though. So you got all this money from getting people to sign up to stuff?

Lol fair enough, it probably wouldn't be worth your time then. Yes, I just make youtube videos which show how to use points2shop to get certain items for free, then when people sign up and complete an offer I can earn up to $1.50 for each person. Its pretty simple and once you set it up you can just leave it and earn a decent amount each day :p

Not bad - a job where you just let the money roll in and don't have to do anything! Well it's an excellent card it's buying you - hope you enjoy your purchase :-)
