Hey all

I am just about ready to order my build and am a tad worried about my mobo and RAM choices.

ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX/GEN3 R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990FX

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9D-16GXM

I tried to check ASUS's memory QVL list and the memory I want is NOT on the list. I really want to get the 16GB (2 x 8gb). I really want this because I want to get it now and not have to worry about RAM for awhile.

My worry is the ASUS QVL list doesn't necessarily specify which GEN of sabertooth mobo is supports. Just says "SABERTOOTH 990FX". The speed doesn't matter too much, I chose a mid range 1600.

Please help with any information or references.

Thanks for your quick answer. Maybe you can help with another questions I have. That board has 4 pin fan connectors but my case I'm considering has 3 pin connector. The board also has fan speed controls. Can I plug the 3 pin in to the 4 pin?

Any considerations??

So for any fan connector other than the CPU fans, you can use a 3 pin and it will properly control the speed of the fan. For the CPU fan headers you MUST use PWM fans otherwise they will just run at full speed.

I own this board and I would say DON'T BUY IT. It is not worth it and it has way too many issues.

PCIe 3.0 is only emulated and barely faster than 2.0.

I purchased the New AMD Gaming Memory @2133 because this board is SUPPOSE to support it, but it does not. It sees the 2133 settings but only allows me to obtain 1866 or so.

ACHI does not work on this board as I can change from IDE to ACHI in the BIOS and NO BSOD; and as you should know this will always cause Win 7 to crash simply changing from one setting to the other. Worse yet I must have installed win 7 about 100 times and each time pressing F6 to load external Raid, ACHI, or combo drivers to no avail. I have a 600 Gig Raptor and on a good day it will transfer at 5 mps, not the rated 600 mps or so, but 5, most times 1 to 2 megs per second. I wasted almost 200 bucks on a 10,000 rpm drive force to only use IDE drivers in Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.

Don't buy Asus, the only time they stand behind their product these days is when they toss it into the trash bin.... Believe that....

Full PCI-E 3 is not much faster than PCI-E 2 regardless, have seen few who could see a difference

Few AMD CPUs can even run 2133, some of the 8350s and that's about it, getting to 2133 takes a skilled user and a good CPU - it's not magic..and the mobo has little to do with it

Yes it does support AHCI, and when you talk about changing, it's no problem if you have things set up right, particularly the registry,

Have no idea what numbers you are talking about throuput is normally in the vicinity of 150 MB/s....maybe you are thinking of 600 from something to do with it being SATA III compliant, but have to be real, there's NO platter Drives that can even hit the SATA II spec let alone SATA III

I've used a number of Raptors, and worked a few of these mobos without problems, maybe you should have come to the forums for help, and have folks explain things to you
