I have a Lenovo T420 with Nvidia NVS 4200M graphics, Also have an Asus PA248Q IPS screen.
The laptop have a display port and a VGA port.
Driver is the latest from Lenovo website.

I im currently using Displayport connection.

When playing a game full screen with DP/HDMI at 1024x768 I can get 60fps but every 10 seconds or so it drops to around 40fps for 2-15 seconds or longer.

where if i hook via VGA playing same game at same settings i can get 60fps stable.

(this game is not demanding at all on both CPU and GPU )

However if i window mode (desktop is using 1920x1080 with game running at 1024x768 windowed) both connection will get 60fps stable.

Any idea why it's doing this? I'm skeptical with running my 1080p screen with a VGA cable so I'd like it to go with HDMI or DP.

First if you connect DisplayPort to DisplayPort did you change the monitors input to DisplayPort? If you left it on HDMI that would explain why you were not getting a signal.

My best guess would be a problem with the DisplayPort>HDMI dongle but I can't say for sure since I have never had to use any kind of dongle for my displays. I only use straight connections. As for VGA up to 1080p a VGA connection would be just fine you would not really notice any difference what so ever period. If that connection works use it.

wow I just tried again and display port works only thing i did different from 3 attempt before was switching the 2 side of the wire... maybe its one directional? ill edit the main post with newest info and a video i recorded.

reason i dont use vga is because there's a slight shadowing on edge of all the lines. even tho its really hard to see but it is there and only over vga.
