Alright, so my E8500 build is finally being upgraded! Been 6 years. I have decided that I am not interested in going Haswell, and will be staying within the 1155 socket. That said, I have already selected the MSI Z77A-GD65 Gaming Motherboard as my foundation. I'm stuck on CPU's though. You'd think it would be an easy decision, but when it comes to my own build, I'm so indecisive lol. I've looked at the Ivy i5 and i7 (locked and unlocked) and also at the i7 2600K. I'd like to spend as little as possible, but am willing to spend the extra cash if necessary. My dilemma: I can get the i7 2600K for $200 right now at a local store vs snagging up an Ivy i7 for $300-$340. The savings is making it difficult to choose. I fear that purchasing an outdated CPU will leave me needing another upgrade sooner rather then later. I plan to use this rig for moderate gaming, and also some HD video encoding/compressing w/ h.264. I don't plan on doing any overclocking. Is the savings worth it? Or should I just get an Ivy i5 or i7? All suggestions and info is welcome and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys/gals!

Go for the 2600K. It's a great deal. The difference in performance from the 2600K to the 3770K is negligible. The Ivy Bridge processors are slightly faster clock for clock but the sandy bridge chips can overclock a little higher than the Ivy Bridge chips and that kind of evens things out a bit in the end. It's worth going for that awesome deal on the Core i7 2600K rather than spending another $100-$140 for a 6% difference at stock speeds. If you need more power you can easily overclock the Core i7 2600K. I would say that a 150-200MHz overclock would put it on par with a stock 3770K.
