I bought this cam for my wife so I could transfer videos onto the mini-DVDs for her. All of a sudden when using "outdoors", the screen washes out and is all white. When "indoors" it works fine. I would think this has something to do with some type of UV imaging thingy. And I assume getting it repaired would cost nearly as much as buying a new one? Thanks.

I would check the camera settings before getting it repaired or replacing it. First you should try changing the LCD BL (LCD backlight level) when using outdoors (p. 86 of the manual). If that doesn't work you could try resetting the camera to factory defaults (see page 129 of the manual for the location of the reset switch). Link to manual: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DCRDVD610.pdf
If all this fails then you should consider replacing the camera as a repair would probably cost more than a replacement.

Strike one and strike two! Neither fixes the problem. I'm looking at the newer cams and the Sony CX220 (for $200) says it uses both a Pro Duo or SD card. So I'm wondering if I record videos on the SD card, can I transfer the data to the Pro Duo in the CX220? Then I could put that Pro Duo in the 810 and copy it to a Mini-DVD. I'll have to go to Best Buy for a trial run. Thanks.

Sorry that neither of those solved the problem. Hopefully the people at Best Buy will be able to answer your questions. Whether or not you'll be able to transfer the files from the Memory Stick Pro Duo to the Mini-DVD depends on the format the CX220 uses to record clips. If it records in some flavor of AVCHD it probable won't but I could be wrong. Of course if you record in SD instead of HD it might be possible. From a look at the manual it does appear as though you can dub files from the Pro Duo to a Mini-DVD.
