Hi guys,

im building a pc and i am completely stuck with the gpu. I have made this system:

AMD FX-8320 Eight Core 3.5GHz

ASUS M5A78L-M USB3

Komputerbay 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1333MHz

1TB Seagate Barracuda 3.5" SATA III HDD

Zalman Z5 Plus Black ATX Mid Tower Case

80+ Powercool 550W

LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x SATA DVDRW Drive

I am asking you which card is better: 6950 2GB, GTX 660, GTX 570 or the 7850/70. I will be playing games like bf3,4, far cry 3 on a 1920x1080 resolution. Also some video editing on after effects. I would like it to be one of these cards unless its cheaper!

Thanks

The most powerful card you listed is the GTX 660 with the 7870 close behind. Those cards run in the US starting at $170-180 for the cheapest cards and can run up to $250 realistically. If you have a target budget and retailers I could suggest certain cards.

Here's another option though - The MSI N650TI TF 2GD5/OC BE GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST 2GB @ Newegg. It's selling for $134.99 after MIR.

Out of the box the 650 Ti Boost 2GB compares to the stock cards as such:

Other non-reference cards will perform better but the 660 has a 8% lead in all resolutions and the 7870 enjoys a 5% for significantly more money. That specific card can play Crysis 3 at 1080p at the "High" setting with some AA enabled so its pretty powerful.

Edited for not reading the OP well:

Here's the performance of the 650 Ti Boost for BF 3 in single player at 4X AA on their bench:

As you can see the 7870 and 660 has a lead in performance though cost more.

If you want to spend less than $150 go with that 650 Ti Boost. If you budget is $200 go with the 660 or 7870; I'd pick the best deal.

The current leader in 1080p gaming at $250 is the GTX 760. Here's the performance of a Gigabyte card for BF3:

At equal settings the GTX 760 outperforms even the $300 7950.

You're welcome. The Nvidia product line can be confusing as to which cards are out there. Also there's location and sales to consider for each individual that makes purchasing difficult. The 660 falls squarely in between the 650 Ti Bosot 2 GB and the 760.

The 7870 is still no slouch of a card, though it is a bit older than the 660. The 760 is the newest card followed by the 650 Ti Boost. At the $200 range the 660 or the 7870 are the cards to get. Tom's recommends the 660 at $200 which makes it a no brainer.

If you're looking for a brand choice the MSI Twiv Frozr cards are reviewed well for their low temps on GPU and quiet operation.
