Just finished my first gaming pc build and when i tried to install windows 7 it couldn't detect my ssd drive. The drive isn't detected in BIOS either yet the sata and power connector are connected correctly. my optical drive works, any help?

Solution

Now, retry to see if the SSD is detected, if not, try another SATA 3 6GB/S port on the motherboard to ensure it is detected...

I would reconnect the SATA 6GB\s cables to the 840 Pro and then retry, you may have not connected it correctly.

I've connected the ssd drive to the SATA 6gb port and the optical drive to the 3gb port. I have checked and double checked the connections and the ssd drive is connected to the motherboard. i used the SATA cables that came with the motherboard.

Now, retry to see if the SSD is detected, if not, try another SATA 3 6GB/S port on the motherboard to ensure it is detected. If not, RMA the SSD or the motherboard.

My bad, i had the white SATA cables plugged into both the ssd and optical drive instead of one of the black cables for the ssd which has a different head. it's working now, making quite a lot of noise but i'm assuming that's because windows 7 is now installing xD
Thanks for the help

No problem, it is the Optical Drive spinning from the Windows 7 installation disk.
