Hi

Game:: Call of Duty: World at War and COD 4

Problem: Lag Spikes - not connection based. Issue occurs in singleplayer and the menu screen. Mouse cursor movements are choppy. In Game, 90FPS steady looking straight without moving. Any/Only camera movements will cause a huge amount of jitter/lag. Normal Character movements dont casue FPS Drop

Occured:: Occured after installing a mod I believe - custom zombies map.

Steps taken to resolve: Deletion of modification from app data folder. Re installation of game. Disabling and Re Enabling VSync.

Additional Info: PC is perfectly capable of this game - has been since a long while. I am not sure if issue lies within Windows 8 or the game itself. CPU Temps are quite normal. Fan does not ramp up that much in this game. Game is installed within a 1TB USB 3 External Drive. No other game is having any issues. Only this one - which eliminates drive failure/malfunctioning. EXACT SAME PROBLEM IN COD 4.

Specs: AMD FX 8120
ARCTIC COOLER FREEZER 7 PRO REV. 11
HD 6770

Video of whats happening, note FPS Drop.

Thing is - It was working - It always worked - Up until a few days ago. When I try and reinstall now - I get the same problem.

It doesn't necessarily have to do with Windows, it might be with a program you recently installed etc. The zombies mod you're running is probably not configured for Windows 8. Stop using it and the problem will go away.
You could also try running WaW and COD4 in compatibility mode for Win7.

Like I said in my first post - I uninstalled the mod AND THE GAME. And then reinstalled the game only.

Why do no other games not even hiccup or have any issue if that is the case?
Not a single other game is having any issue like that including Crysis 2.
The drive is USB 3.

Other games might play fine over USB 3 because they are coded to play nice with external installations. Either way, you are limitin the games performance. USB 3 only provides 5Gbit/s of bandwidth, and you can call it 4Gbit/s or less because it'll never use its full bandwidth. Either way, you're looking at SSD-like performance, but you are limited by the amount of bandwidth your mobo can provide/handle.
The reason I am talking about the USB drive is because you installed it on the drive, the game isn't in the Windows registry. Usually that shouldn't be an issue, but again, install it locally and try again.

(can't believe I forgot to say this) Turn on VSync, playing at FPS higher than you monitor's refresh rate will cause stutter.

Not trying to offend you or anything, but please read my initial post fully, I already tried enabling/disabling VSync and the thing is it worked fine before, never had any hiccup, it started recently. How can a USB3 Drive cause the game to function correctly, loading times are fine, game textures load instantly, I really don't believe this is Drive related as the only thing that it is doing is dropping FPS when the camera moves/look. When I use WASD to move around and keep the Camera still - its perfect.

Sorry, I did read the original post but I haven't been to the site in a few days. It just dropped out of my memory.
Anyway, you say you've updated drivers etc. but you're still having issues. Do you have another GPU to try it with? I have a 6770 in my system and for modern games (basically games made in 2010 and onwards) it's way too weak for decent graphics settings.
For WaW and COD4 it shouldn't be an issue, but nevertheless you should always try.

I don't think the Card is the problem. I was more thinking about Registry based errors. I had decided to completely reinstall the two games, I checked delete profiles etc. I even cleared them out of the registry with CCleaner - thats what I think it did. My profile still pops up when I reinstalled them. Its something to do with the same engine the two games are running - Both Games have the exact same problem, same time. It must be the engine that is corrupt installed, I have no idea how to completely delete every single trace of the game without Reinsttalling my whole OS. Is there something I could check with my Event Viewer - maybe what happened on that day?

Grab a program that lets you secure erase a USB drive (basically the program fills every allocated and unallocated space with 0's to completely erase any trace of anything on the drive). Be sure you back up everything you want, because once you erase it, there's no way ever that you can retrieve it. I'm not talking about "recycle bin" deletion here, where it just marks the space as unallocated disk space. It will completely erase anything on the drive. Any trace of any file will be gone, hence the term"secure erase."
That should take care of any leftover hidden files on the drive that might be causing issues.

As for CCleaner, sometimes you need to run the registry cleaner a few times before it catches everything.

And if you are using Steam: choose to delete everything the game's stored, even game saves. This will remove anything Steam has locally for the game, not just profiles and game data.

Also: Profiles are stored online, that way you can move to a different console/PC, and still be the same rank on multiplayer. Like I just said though, that usually only applies to multiplayer, but since the only CoD I played was MW2 (before switching over to Battlefield), I'm not sure that's how it used to work.

Another thing you could try is reinstalling GPU drivers. By that I mean uninstalling, running DriverSweeper in safe mode, reinstalling.
Even Viewer logs might give you an insight into what happened, but it usually only records system errors.
