Hi, I have a Dell u2711 27" 2560x1440 display which is currently running at a crappy resolution because I'm using an old laptop. However, I am looking to buy a new laptop and I would like to be able to support my external display at it's highest resolution. Will integrated (3rd or 4th generation Intel) graphics be enough, or would I need a separate graphics card? Thanks!

I believe the new hd4600 on Haswell can display up to 2560x1600, while the hd4000 can not. Something to look for though is the display connector, you'll need display port or dvi to run that resolution otherwise you'll be stuck at 1080p, I don't know a whole ton of laptops with those connectors, and I'm not sure if I know any without a dedicated gpu.
