Hi all,

So my seagate 2tb hdd fell on the floor and now can't be seen by my pc. It keeps making a single beep every 4 seconds. I have tried to change the usb cable an ports. I really don't care about the data on it, I would just like it to format it and get it up and running again. I would like to not have to open the hdd seeing as live in a particularly dusty apartment. Does anyone have any suggestions on programs or procedure I could use to get it running again?

Thanks,

M

Sounds like stiction (heads stuck to platters) or a seized spindle motor.

You say that your data are not important, so the best option is to replace the drive. If you remove the cover, you'll not only void the warranty, but you will also introduce contaminants. As a last resort you could try "percussive maintenance" ...

I can't replace it, so I just wanted a last hail mary before I throw it away.

If all else fails, sell the PCB on eBay.
