My pc was in sleep the other day, and it turned on its own and on the welcome screen there was no shut down button. Only my user name with a switch user button under it. I click on it and the same username (mine) appears again, this time with the shutdown button. Is another user actually on my computer during sleep??The same thing happened just now to one of my family member's computer. Am I being paranoid or are the laptops being accessed?

I know I've been hacked because I've had a bunch of nirsoft tools unknowingly installed to a virtual drive which i did not create. My pc got so messed up i couldn't factory restore so I reinstalled vista with a cd but my pc is still hacked because it automatically created a small primary partition and the screen blacks out for a moment whenever i load something or open something.

How can I prevent remote access from unknown users? Also I have a suspicion this is being done by someone living very close by.

What type of network do you have? Is your wireless secure? You may want to reset our router and set things up again, use a different wifi network name, and make sure your admin password is set and your account is not an administrator.

You'd want to wipe any partitions on the computer, format the drive, then install Windows again.

This sounds like residual (or still active) affects of the hack/virus. I would use any antivirus tools you have available to you, and I would likely disable guest and make a new profile to see if the new profile is still acting this way.
