Hey all, this is my first time building so I'd appreciate suggestions for a good build.

Approximate Purchase Date: 3-4 weeks from now

Budget Range: Around $1200

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Primarily gaming, music production, streaming videos. I intend to eventually have a dual-monitor set-up and to game on one screen while streaming on the other.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: None, really. Whoever is reputable with reasonable prices.

Country: USA

Parts Preferences: I would prefer an Intel processor - I've done some research and it looks like the i5 series would be my best bet. As far as the case goes, I was looking at the Corsair 500R which looks pretty snazzy and is currently on deep discount. I'd also like to have a SSD for my gaming/music and then a 1TB hard-drive for everything else. An optical drive would be great too.

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: If recommended

Peripherals: I don't have any! I'd like to get a Razer 2013 Deathadder and a nice monitor. A cheap keyboard is fine and speakers can come later.

Monitor Resolution: I must confess I don't know much about resolution. I've done a bit of research but still feel largely ignorant. Whatever will make my games look pretty I suppose.

Additional Comments: I play games like XCOM, EVE Online and Deus Ex: HR and would like to be able to max them out. I will need to purchase a copy of Windows 7 and I plan on partitioning the hard drive for a Linux distro. If any of my preferences conflict with my budget, just let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help! It's awesome that you guys take time to help newbies such as myself.

Ah, I suspected as much. Well, I've updated my post accordingly. I don't mind spending a bit more as this will be my only computer for awhile (the laptop I'm posting from is on its deathbed..) If $1100 is possible I'd like to shoot for that but 1200 is my upper limit.

$800 is a decent budget. I'd stretch to $900, as a monitor will be ~$120 and windows is $80. That leaves $700 for the build. Unfortunately even $900 will not get you an overclockable cpu AND a good gpu, though rest assured that the locked i5s are great and the one I have selected is tomshardware's favorite gaming cpu at that price. Also you won't be able to have an SSD at that budget either. To get a K-cpu, compatible motherboard, SSD, and GPU you'd have to spend upwards of $1200.

here's a decent one too. using an i5 4670K

1,170.85$ after all those shipping and stuff.

it's Intel + overclocking cpu + gpu + 128gb ssd samsung 840 pro + 1tb wdc black 1TB 7200rpm 64mb cache = win7 home prem 64bit + 1920x1080 asus 23.6" monitor should be a good deal mate.

Tried staying under your max 1200$ budget but if you can go higher, go with a 760, corsair h80i should take you at 1300-1400 last one I made until I saw you trying to keep your budget.
