They are pretty well matched for gaming: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-o...
I might opt for the AMD because of the 4 cores (or 2 Piledriver 'modules' as they are called). But I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference which one you had when you were gaming.

it depends on the game but IMHO, the i3 will win overall even if it is a dual core. see this:

the fx4300 needs to be overclocked to 4.2-4.5ghz to get par on i3 but to do this, you'll need to buy an aftermarket cooler and a 990 chipset board which will increase the cost significantly.

That guy in the vid has a booger sticking out of his left nostril (our right). I would go for t he i3 as well, as I did have it but eventually went with an i5 later down the road. They do use less power, throw off less heat, so you save money in the long run AND don't need as big a PSU.

In general, the difference between AMD and Intel (matching models) for games is 5-20 fps (for the benefit of overwhelming praises for Intel, let's give the extra fps to Intel).

FX processors will perform at 45fps and up. PS3s performs at 30-60fps. Go figure.

The question is, does it matter? I don't even notice the difference when fps climbs from 45 to 81 while playing WOT.

I believe that the comparisons are all based on numbers but not on gaming experience. As a matter of fact, I experience the "stutter" on Lenovo Z480 (i5 2.6Ghz, 630M GT, 8gb DDR3) than on my 5 year old Athlon 64 X2 2.9Ghz, HD6790 (relatively new of course), 4gb DDR2.
