Upgrading from Pentium 4 to i3

I have a Pentium 4 machine with Abit's SRX-8X MOBO. I am thinking of upgrading to i3 processor. Several questions come to mind -

1. Will my existing mobo support i3?
2. If I upgrade the mobo, will my existing case support mobo? i.e. outputs line up right?
3. If 1 and 2 works, will my DDR2 fit on the new mobo
3. I am sure I will be able to carry over the multiple IDE and RAID drives over.

Any thoughts? What processor or MOBO I should use? Trying to use all Craigslist spares to upgrade the PC inexpensively. Thank you.

Solution
1: No.
2: Yes, as long as it is not too big for your case.
3: No, you will need DDR3 with a newer motherboard.
4: No. A newer motherboard will not support IDE, you need new Sata HDDs.

Anyway... Even if you could use the same motherboard, you would need to re-install windows for such a drastic CPU change, which means re-formatting the raid drives. What is your budget, and what will you be using the system for?

1) No.
2) Depends on your case, but if it is ATX, yes.
3) You should get DDR3 ram for your new motherboard and i3.
4) No, most new boards use SATA. If it has an IDE port you can, but it's going to be a waste of the i3 and new motherboard.

I see that you can get a good i3 machine for $400-500. I was hoping to make max use of the existing parts and perhaps spend couple hundred at the most and make the most machine. But it seems like I will be throwing away the case, motherboard, memory, HDs ... might as well get a new machine if nothing is going to be recyclable.
