I always try the simple stuff first, check the wire, check the port on the router, check to see the LED on the nic is lit, check the Device manager look for updated drivers, check duplex speed and make sure it's set to auto... What is the router's duplex speed?.........................
A lit green LED for the nic does not mean that the connection is good like it is supposed to, I've seen it where one wire was broken yet the LED was still lit.

Check the Device Manager on the operating system to see if you have an error with your Ethernet Adapter. Often with machines that you just built, you will have driver errors and this sounds like a Ethernet Adapter driver error.

Yeah, i forgot the motherboard came with the essential drivers disk.. Popped it in and installed everything (1 of them were Intel LAN, so after that one installed, i rebooted and i was in the clear!)

A coworker years ago built his own computer w/dual monitors but was running incredibly slow. He would come complain about it and I was bummed out for the guy (he's is really smart and works at IBM's data center in kentucky now). Finally after reading and searching someone(wasn't me) said "hey, did you load the drivers?" He downloaded the drivers and was all smiles. Everything (gaming) was insanely fast compared to the junk we used at work...

Glad you are up and running!
