I have a i7 920 on a P6T deluxe motherboard. When I load setup defaults in the bios the idle temp is around 50c and 80 under load. I have it clocked at 3.9 and the idle temp is the same but under load its 89c. I replaced the stock heatsink with an artic cooler freezer 7. The temps did not chance at all. I have reseated and reapplied thermal paste multiple times and checked for dust. I cant seem to find out why this chip is burning so hot. Is there a heatsink that will actually get the temperature's down or should I just invest in a new chip.

Might be your voltages are to high, what's you system voltages, vCore, DRAM, etc (all of them)

I have the DRAM at 1.66 and the cpu voltage at 1.3250 and the qpi/dram at 1.35, But like I said even when I run the computer at the default bios settings the temperatures are still too high.

Could be your cooler (though the Arctic freezer pro is a good one, poor airflow in the case, don't know, but is warmer than I would want

I'd first check and feel the air around your cooler when under load. Maybe your sensor is misreading

Everything else in the system is running cool. I put a big ass fan at the open case to see if the temperatures would drop and it did but only by like 3 degrees. The bios temperature reads the same, I got the BSOD after about an hour of Guild Wars 2. I clocked it down to 3.8 with the voltage at 1.3250. I had it at 4.0 with the voltage at 1.35 when it crashed. I'm just not sure what to do.

Might try a different cooler...think the 1.325 is fine, the 1.35 is too much for an OC like that

Can you recommend a new cooler. Like I said I'm using an artic cooler 7 currently and it's not doing much. One more question, do you think it's worth it to upgrade from my p6t deluxe and i7 920 to a z77 saber tooth and new i5 3570k? Or would the improvement in gameplay not be noticeable?
