Packet loss around specific time

Hi,

I've been experiencing some very annoying packet loss on my fiber optic connection for a good while now. I probably talked to a dozen of my ISP's employees over the last month, but it seems some of them have trouble grasping basic principles of computer networks.

The packet losses occur around a specific time every day (roughly between 4 am and 6:30 am). According to WinMTR results (http://i.imgur.com/MYV6eCc.png) during these hours, the trouble seems to be somewhere between my router (DD-WRT) and the next hop (10.0.0.1). Aside from the loss %, there is also a high response time on some of the packets (1000+ ms, while the average is 10-15 ms).

Direct connection changes nothing, which rules out a router problem. I assume it can't be a faulty cable either, since there is zero packet loss throughout the rest of the day. Also, I suppose it's not a network congestion issue, given the early hours and the fact that this happens every single day (no exceptions).

Has anyone experienced similar issues? Any ideas on what could be causing this? I'm pretty much out of ideas here. And since I've been (repeatedly) asked by my ISP to send MTR results for different hosts (although it's obvious every packet I send or receive goes through the same device identified as 10.0.0.1), I assume it will take a couple of years before they make any progress in identifying the problem.

Thanks.

If this is in the US and Comcast is your provider then good luck getting a straight answer from anyone. Dealing with them is like trying to hit a moving target...
