So i'm planning on buying a new rig (dual 780s) for 5760x1080 gaming. I'm afraid that with the new consoles, PC graphics will get pushed harder and require new hardware. I'm already spending lots of money and the last thing I want to do is purchase new gpu hardware so I can play the latest games. Will 780 sli rigs (maybe a third one added in a year or two) be 2 years future proof?

You seem to be in a state of mis information. The gpu ps4 will have is a 7850, it will have a 4 module amd cpu running at a laptop esq power 1.6 gig and it will all be tied to 8 gig of ddr5 ram to help things out a bit.
Take out some O/S cpu usage(very helpful i...
The thing with the next gen consoles is they are already starting to be phased out in terms of hardware, with the 780's and amd's 9000 series flagship coming out in a few months pc will always be in front. Is just a matter of pc can always be upgraded and pushed farther, consoles are stuck at one gen for years. So its always worth it for upgrading pcs. Dual 780s will surpass consoles by far.

Yeah, but wouldn't that raise PC gaming standards? I only say this because I kind of seen this before. Think of PC gaming in the PS2 and original xbox era. Then see how quickly it improved with the release of the ps3 and 360. I may be wrong on this, but I just fear not just for me but for everyone else. 5760x1080 is pretty demanding, even on medium settings.

Take out some O/S cpu usage(very helpful i suspect), it will be a good tv console,
but At no point even on launch will this console EVER threaten pc games. Ye cannea break the laws of physics, and consoles are stuck around 250 watts. BTW, they WILL tout it as an 8 core cpu, and bragg about the ddr5 ram so that console enthusiasts can be mislead about its potential, and spout pants , which is why they used an I.B.M. 3x cell processor on the ps3 amongst other reasons; God forbid a console be measurable against other tech. !

It depends what you trying to get out of your system. As for me i like to game on high settings at 60fps at all times and even at 1440p the 780 does nicely but i wouldnt mind going up to the gtx 880/SLI or 890 once they release
