I know that none of you can tell what the future will bring BUT... I am slightly worried that if I purchase this card, then in the near future (1 year) I may be struggling with the 2gb of VRAM:

Because of this worry, I am beginning to consider to 7970 GHz edition which has 3gb of VRAM.

I have looked into benchmarks between these 2 and have seen that the 770 performs slightly better with current gen games but I feel like the 7970 may perform better in the long run (3 years).

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I know how you feel. Would be nice to see some 3GB models but for reasons I don't understand, it seems large memory versions of cards will always be double the standard memory size. Of course it comes down to the games and settings you want - if you're strongly opposed to dropping settings then I'd suggest looking for a deal on a 4GB model.

Thing with 2GB is that if you do reach a point where it's insufficient, dropping texture resolution should be all that's necessary that you can still max everything else with good framerates (provided the GPU itself is capable of course but either of these should be fine for a good while).

I appreciate that the 770 is better as of now, but I was talking about in the future. Will the 3gb of VRAM be beneficial?
