Trying to overclock my cpu, but have never tried it before. I read this guide but I'm wondering what I should be able to overclock up to and keep it stable without messing with the voltage.

---------------------------------------------
The guide mentioned disabling and enabling some things in the BIOS, what do you guys think of it:

Disable:

Limit CPUID Maximum
Power Technology
C1E Support
OverSpeed Protection
Spread Spectrum

Enable:

Internal PLL Overvoltage
Execute Disable Bit
Intel Virtualization Tech
---------------------------------------------

Here's my setup:

Motherboard: AsRock Extreme3 Gen3
CPU (you already know): Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4GHZ Sandy
Cooling: Corsair H100 Liquid CPU Cooler (closed-loop system)
Case: Coolermaster Haf 922 ATX
OS: Win 7 64-bit
Power Supply: OCZ Z-SERIES 1000W 80+ Gold Cert

Edit: My idle CPU temp is around 30-35 °C.

Been running for around 2 years. Not sure if I need to list anything else here but let me know if I do. Also, ASRock has this Extreme Tuning Utility (screenshot below) which lets you overclock while within Windows so I'm wondering if it's safe to use that or should I always go with a reboot?

Mostly I'm looking to overclock as I want to render stuff at times and some 3D programs are still entirely dependent on the CPU. So, I don't really need to keep it overclocked the entire time but once in a while I would need to overclock it for an entire day or half a day.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Thanks, should I be doing this before I overclock to 4ghz though:

Disable:

Limit CPUID Maximum
Power Technology
C1E Support
OverSpeed Protection
Spread Spectrum

Enable:

Internal PLL Overvoltage
Execute Disable Bit
Intel Virtualization Tech

Yep, those should be changed.

Okay, so I went through with all that and now I'm at 4GHz. My temp at 100% is 57°C. I ran CPU-Z and it shows my Vcore jumping from 1.24-1.27 so I'm wondering if I should be worried about that. Also, do you think if I went to 4.5Ghz I'd need to set a Vcore offset? This guide recommends setting the Offset Voltage to +0.005v.

What are your thoughts??

First off, use fixed voltage if you have no idea how to OC, 1.27 is a bit high for 4GHz.
Set it to fixed and then a level 3 LLC profile. Then try as low as 1.2v. Increase it in increments of 0.05v if you can not do a 30 min run in prime or OCCT.

The thing is, I didn't change my voltage it was set to auto and was going that high. Anyway I changed it now. Any idea about what settings I should use for the Prime95 program?

Just a normal stresstest of all cores.
