Hi,

I have replaced my motherboard to an MSI Z77A GD65 Gaming, and would like to know if I would have to format and re-install windows or not?

Thanks

Solution
Since your version was OEM, everthing hinges on "Reason" you replaced the MB.
.. If you replaced a healthy MB for upgrade reasons then you NEED to purchase a new OS.
.. If you replaced the MB because it failed, then You are OK, but may be required to call uSoft and explain that your MB died. May not have to call it all depends on if you get error message stating in effect not a legal copy.

My current pc is a custom built pc i ordered online. It came with Windows 7 and has the sticker on the side stating Windows 7 Pro, OEM software and then below that the product key.
So if I chose to format which I wouldn't mine doing anyway, could I just use the same key?

A lot of Unanswered questions.
1) Is the replacement MB the same. If Upgraded the drivers required mostly will be different - SO Yes You should re-install the OS.
2) What version of OS
.. Windows 7 or 8,
Windows 8 changed the Lic for OEM version You can KNOW transfer a OEM lic to a new MB.
.. For Windows 7, You can ONLY transfer the OEM Lic if The MB died. You can not transfer the lic (must buy a new Copy) if you simply upgraded a "Working" MB.

.. No Problems transfering the Full retail verson, or a Upgrade version. NOTE for the Upgrade version you DO NOT have to re-install the old qualifing OS - Just follow the steps todo a Clean install using Upgrade.
