Hello,

This week I want to purchase a 4770k and the Hero. But the motherboard supports up to 2800Mhz (OC) and what i've read is the i7 4770 (Haswell) support max 1600Mhz. So if I for example buy the Corsair Vengeace 2400Mhz, what will happen?

Will the RAM be clocked down to 1600Mhz?

I am not planning to overclock the 4770K yet, maybe in the future.
Is it safe to just go with the 1600Mhz, or for future safe settings I should go with faster RAM... ?

Intel officially supports upto 1600MHz but it does support upto 3000MHz (O.C). Yes, the default speed might be 1600MHz, but you can adjust it in the BIOS. You can manually set the frequency to the desired freq or you can go to XMP and set profile 1.

Yes, 2400MHz is a good speed. Maybe you need to adjust something in the BIOS but it will work. Personally, I think you'd like the GSkill TridentX sets. Let me know if you need any recommendations. Cheers, mate!!

But for example, if I don't want to overclock. Is it better to go with the 4770 rather then the 4770K, and get a cheaper non-overclocking good motherboard. Will there be performance difference (in game and applications)?

You can yes, but I'd stay with what you picked, that way in the future YOU MAY want to OC
