My computer has been in storage for the past 5 months or so, and i've come to use it again now, and expected the updates to just install as they usually would. However, that is not the case. Every time i go to install updates from within windows, it'll show : ( http://imgur.com/XltXLhY ). Every time my computer shuts down, it'll want to install updates, and keeps my computer on for sometime 'installing' between 3 and 5 updates, which fail ( http://imgur.com/1AS4P8Y ). I've tried the windows update troubleshooter, it says it fixes an issue, but clearly it's still not working. Im stumped as to what to do next. Ive got windows 7 x64 (not sure what build) If you need any more information, let me know. Any help would be great, Thanks.

Have you tried just installing each update 1 by 1 (meaning, select one updated, install it.. reboot, then do the next one)? This often solves identical issues.
Also, what type of computer is it?

Try installing them 1 by 1. When you have a ton of updates sometimes there are ones that rely on something else being installed previously in order for it to go through. From your screen shot I see you have multiple versions of the .net framework trying to install.

*edit* Thicks beat me to it :).

Had a simular problem on wife's computer (also windows 7). Tried everyway to sunday to correct. Found on usoft website a "last resort" method - Re-install windows as an Upgrade.. This fixed the problem, NOTE it kept all programs, so did not have to re-install pograms.

PS as a safety precaution, down load Prime 95 and verify that your memory is still good - error free.

I hate to ask, but is the system's date/time/timezone set properly (after being in storage so long)? That small thing can cause such errors.

Also, I would suggest running CCLeaner to remove all temp files before trying to run Windows Update (after verifying that the correct date/time are set).

Thanks for the fast replies! Ive always loved the Toms hardware forums. My Ram checks out fine, and im starting to install the updates 1 by 1. First one has successfully downloaded. Hopefully the rest follow suit. @COLGeek, the time and date settings were fine.
