I bought an asus/nvidia GTX650 card and when I installed it the fan started up
full speed (sounds like a helicopter) and the machine refused to boot up (no bios - display nothing)

There were no cables in the box and when I asked the sales guy
said you don't need the 6 pin plug because thats just for a second card (or something like that)

I was told in my other thread (here) that I should use that plug.

Can someone please give me a definate answer - must that plug be used
for this card to work and if it isnt in will it cause the fan to go crazy and a blank display like this?

Thanks.

If it has a power plug, use it. Your PCIe slot may not be giving it enough power, may be something with the power supply as well. Get an adapter for the power if you need to, they are a few dollars on ebay.

Any card that has a power socket will need connecting.
It wasnt a Curries/pcworld salesman was it?

thanks for the answers guys.
I will try and get an adaptor - I bought a 580 watt psu and I now learn that
the 700 watt one has a plug for this on it.

It seems I've been badly advised all round/

FYI for once it wasnt PC world this time it was Maplins.
Once upon a time they used to know what they were doing.
maybe they were just having a bad day?
