So, my first post on the forums is a problem. Whoo-hoo.

Anyway, I've had this laptop, an HP Pavillion g7-1070us, for I think four years now. Last year, I noticed the fan was always on, so I installed Core Temp which alerted me that the CPU was idling at 150f and on load was up to 194f. Now, that startled me, so I immediately cracked her open and cleaned every inch of dust out of the case. Now, that brought temps back in to reason with 130 idle and 170 load.

However, as time went by those pesky temps just kept escalating. Yesterday I cleaned it out again, and temps did not decrease. Today I've reached a "new record" of 172 at IDLE and 194 on load.

Here are the glorious specs:
i3-380M @ 2.53ghz
8gb Ram
500gb HDD

Laptop coolers are out of the option, as none have ever worked for this thing.

I'd really appreciate some help on this, and it may just be time to get a new laptop.

Holy smokes. Those temps are astronomical!

You could try applying thermal grease on that thing but I doubt that's the problem here. Those temps are HIGH, and it'll slowly kill your CPU. It might be time to get a new laptop. But let's see first what the other guys will say, aye?

Yeah I'm assuming it's not very healthy.

I'm slowly building a new desktop so here's hoping this thing will last just long enough to get all the files off.
