Powercolor Devil 7870 or GTX 660 Ti?

Solution

This may help determine which brand of video card you'd like. Remember, the performance change isn't much at all, if anything at all.

Comparing Noise & Temps for the GTX 760

Noise:

MSI = 25dbA idle / 27dbA load
ASUS = 25dbA idle / 33dbA load
Gigabyte = 27dbA idle / 34dbA load
EVGA = 26dbA idle / 38 dbA load

Temps:

MSI = 29C idle / 69C load / 70C overclocked load
ASUS = 29C idle / 68C load / 74C overclocked load
Gigabyte = 36C idle / 68C load / 70C overclocked load

Comparison

The GTX 660 Ti:

+ Consistently performs ~10-15% faster somewhat consistently.
+ Capable of fully utilizing GPU-based PhysX in any current form. (Physics effects in games).
+ Capable of playing with TXAA enabled. (New form of anti-aliasing).
+ Usually quieter on full load.
+ Generally lower power consumption

The Radeon 7870

+ ~ $74 cheaper
+ Temperatures are generally better (Cooler)
+ In compute benchmarks, the Radeon 7870 is consistently better by an extreme amount.

Conclusion

If it's for gaming, the GTX 660 Ti is somewhat consistently faster than the Radeon 7870. If you're going for pure performance and don't mind the increase in price, you should probably go for that. If you want something cheaper for its performance and don't need that extra raw power, then the Radeon 7870 is an excellent choice.

Alternate Recommendation

If you were to go with the GTX 660 Ti, I advise you to reconsider for a GTX 760 instead on the Nvidia side. The GTX 760 provides consistently better performance than the GTX 660 Ti, and is generally about the same price. As for a GTX 760 vs Radeon 7870 comparison, just look at what I said previously about the GTX 660 Ti, and consider a small-moderate jump in performance with the GTX 760.

I hope this helps :)

only thing from preventing me going 660 ti is the backplate of the Powercolor Devil lol can you recommend another card that has a backplate on which has similar tier to a 660ti to 670 or 760 to 770 and 7950 to 7970? i know asus 670 has one

so I decided to go with gtx 760 as it offers more performance/price ratio, is it a wise decision?, what brand can you recommend? EVGA or MSi?
well my PSU can handle it? I got a Seasonic 560w Gold PSU..

Conclusion

In case you're not sure what this means, the MSI brand is generally best to go with for temps & noise with the GTX 760. All of these brands are excellent to choose from however. When it comes to overclocking, you hear good things about Asus & MSI as well.

I recommend the MSI brand for the GTX 760 due to superior cooling, noise, and likeliness in superior overclocking.

Second Question - Can your PSU handle a GTX 760?

Guru3D recommends a 30A & 500W PSU minimum for a single GTX 760.

Considering your Seasonic 560w Gold PSU is gold rated, it's very efficient. It also has 46A to its +12V rail, which is enough for one GTX 760. If you were planning on doing SLI, I'd recommend another PSU. If not though, your Seasonic 560w will be able to handle a single GTX 760.

As long as the Seasonic 560w is this psu you'll be able to handle that GTX 760 without any problems, even if you were to overclock. A single GTX 570 (although worse in performance) has a much higher power draw than a single GTX 760 and the Seasonic 560w (X-series that I linked) can easily handle a GTX 570.
