No display on boot up GPU fan goes 100% help!

No display on boot up GPU fan goes 100% then the computer shuts down. When I took out the Card a GTX 680 (ref/PNY) the system worked fine. Put in an old GPU and that worked fine so I think my GPU on my 680 is dead. What can I do to make sure the issue is not something else causing it?

System specs
CPU i73770k o.c.4.2Ghz
RAM Kingston 2400Mhz CL11 2 x 8 GB
WD 1TB and 2TB HDD, Samsung 500GB HDD and OCZ 60GB SSD
Corsair ATX 750 watts PSU
MS ASUS P8 Z77LX2
Case Coolermaster HAF XM 922
Corsair H100i on the CPU
Windows 7 64bit

I think it's safe to say that your is probably bad. There isn't much in the way of GPU diagnostic utilities. In you have access to Linux, there is CUDA GPU memtest: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cudagpumemtest/

I have never used it, but it seems functional enough. Normally, I run some type of burn-in utility and see if the card fails. Furmark works for this.

If your card is fairly new, get started on a RMA.

Try the card in another machine. I had a 6870 that would crash my system if you ran anything at load. Took it out, tried it in another system I knew was good and had the same problem. I returned it after that.

The GTX 680 was working fine for over a year but I shut down last night and today only the issue started!? Also I'll try find a computer to make sure the card is ok.

Sort of how my card went. The system worked fine, got done with a gaming session and shut down for updates. Next time I put the system under load, I got a black screen of death and the screech of a machine tormented over my case speaker.

I tested it with PassMark PerformanceTest (only because it worked as was free) a couple times and got a failure each time. Took it out, put it in another machine and got the same results. I had owned the card a whopping five days when this happened, so I sent it back to Newegg and got my money back. My next card was an nVidia branded reference card, which, while utterly unexciting, worked flawlessly, as did the second I bought for SLI.

Did you move your pc at all or carry it anywhere?

This happened to me after carry my pc back to my house from my friends, worked fine in his house and then as soon as I got home and turned it on the GPU fan went to 100% and the monitor would not turn on.

Turns out when I was carrying it home I so how slightly bent the back panel of the tower outwards (the part that the GPU is screwed onto to hold it in place.

I removed the GPU, bent the back panel back in, re-seated the GPU and it worked again fine.
