Hi guys,

I'm using a WRT54GL w/Tomato firmware and the Ethernet port recently died. I'm wondering if I can use one of the router lines as the ethernet port instead.

So the WRT54GL has Ethernet, Lines 1,2,3,4.

Can I use Line 1 as the Ethernet Port since the original port is dead?

What do you mean one of the "router lines"? Are you talking about the regular ethernet network ports? Are you talking about the WAN port that failed (which is also ethernet)? You have your terminology confused a bit.

No you can't use one of the regular network ports as the WAN port.

I think I skipped over the fact he had the custom firmware on it, you can remap with those commands. I did not like the WTR54 much when I had one anyway, was very flakey with WiFi connections. Good chance to get an N router with gigabit ports :)

i just got a wireless n about 2 months ago, upgrading from my wrt54g that i've had for years and years. it's not really worth it (unless the g router has failed of course) unless you actually have and need wireless N devices (which i did need, transferring multiple gigabyte files rather consistently).
