I have an older workstation from 2009 (dual processor quad Xeon X5482, Intel 5400 mobo) that I use for occasional at home work (engineering graphics) and some racing games. Currently have a Asus EAH5870 thats great for the few games I play, but utterly sucks at CAD.
From all the research I've done, going nvidia GTX is the way to go short of going full Quadro, I have quado in my workstation at work, but I do not want to spend more then $300 on a card since I rarely work at home, plus you cant game much on quadro..
So my question, I'm 99% sure that my intel 5400 motherboard is NOT SLI compatible, so no dual card setups for me, but can I run a single GTX590 which is a dual GPU on a single card setup? or do I need and SLI mobo to even run that card?
