Hi
I have 2 hard drives on my computer, 1 with a bootloader that points to a kubuntu installation on the other.

I have a new ssd and want to replace the drive with the bootloader with it. I replaced it, booted with the kubuntu live on a usb. No problem: the bios found the new drive, the usb booted but can't see the ssd where I want to install kubuntu.

What have I got to do to allow kubuntu-live to see the ssd?

You need to partition the drive, format it, and then mount it if you want to access it under linux.

There are many ways to do this, and depending on your distro, you have different options available to you. I would do a search to see how to mount a new drive (to include partition and format) on your version of linux.

If you are unsuccessful, let us know, and we can try to help further.

No. Do I need to do that with the usb installation kubuntu or the original OS?

I'll do a search for the syntax for mount and see how I go with the usb kubuntu-live.

Thank you

If you are booting from a usb drive the installer will see that as sda making the main drive you want to install to as sdb.
Try running "parted -l" "fdisk -l" or "cfdisk" to get a look at all the drives/partitions.
