Do I need any additional hardware to build a functional gaming rig?

Hey guys, this is my first question here, so I'd like to start off by saying thank you for all the amazing support you guys give people, you really are good people.

Now lets get to the question.

I plan on building a new PC entirely. My current one is starting to run slow, and many of the components are dying so I think it's time to build a new one. This will be my first build on my own, I regretfully bought my last one pre-purchased and overpaid tremendously because I was rather uneducated about computers in general (And still am). So here's my current list of parts (for my new build).

So do I need any more parts than this? If so what parts, and which parts would you recommend? Is there any parts here that I can cut back on to save money and lose little to no performance (I want the same case/CPU cooler/RAM, but most other stuff is up for changes)?

Case - NZXT Phantom 820 Full tower case

PSU - CORSAIR HX Series HX750 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready (Sorry about the length, I wasn't sure about what I should list for a CPU name so I just listed what Newegg posted it as)

Mobo - ASRock Z77 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU - Intel I5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz

Thermal paste - Tuniq TX-4

RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

CPU cooler - Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler

HDD Western Digital WD Blue 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM

CD/DVDBurner - ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - (Can this read CDs/DVDs as well?)

GPU - GTX 770 4GB

OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM

Total price - ~1500 dollars USD give or take $100 (because of taxes) not including shipping

If you want to see the prices of these items individually here's the links to their Newegg postings, and their respective hardware. NOTE - Some of these are bundles on Newegg

Case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146096 - $220.00

Mobo/PSU combo - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1390883 - $250- $270

CPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116504 - $220

Thermal Paste - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835154012 - $14

RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428 - $75

CPU cooler - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018 - $81

HDD/CDburner - http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1385207 - $71

GPU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127741 - $400

OS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986 - $100

About my compatibility concerns, will all this be compatible? And if anybody has a NZXT Phantom 820 w/ a Noctua NH-D14 how does it fit? I know the RAM will fit under the noctua, but I'm not sure whether to not it will fit in the case, although I do expect it will. If it does fit well, how is the Noctua for cooling? From what I hear it's the best air cooler there is, but I want some opinions from other people who own them too.

Once again, thank you to everybody on Tomshardware who help people with their tech.

You don't recommend the thermal paste? Why not? Does it really do as much as people say in terms of cooling, or do you not recommend it because it's not necessary with a Noctua NH-D14 (Also, from what I hear a great, if not the best air cooler)?
