can I plug in one monitor per GPU?

Hi!

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I just want to make sure I know all the facts!

I currently have a 27" monitor, and am planning on purchasing a 23" monitor (Same make, model, style etc, just smaller) to use in conjunction with the larger one, for things such as monitoring, video watching yadda yadda yadda. Anyway, what I want to know is:

- As I currently have the 27" plugged into my first GPU via HDMI, and I want to use HDMI for the second also, can I use the HDMI on my second GPU for this? Or do all monitors have to be plugged into a single GPU, regardless of how many you have?

FYI, if you ahvent already guessed, I have a 2 way SLI setup, which is why I am asking. =) Hover over my Avatar for a full list of my system specs.

Morning grebehonebad, Usually both monitors must be plugged into the same GPU under SLI configurations. Why use both as HDMI? Use DVI or Display port.

Read this:
http://www.nvidia.in/object/sli-technology-multimonitor-in.html

This is my setup:
GTX680 SLI powering a Dell U2711 -gaming
GT610 powering my other monitors. -2D applications (Web browings, temps, etc)

The reason I used the GT610 2GIG version is
#1 -its low profile so its fits on my motherboard (Sabertooth Z77)
#2 -i didn't want to use unneeded GPU usuage and to reduce heat off my GTX680's -Which it did. lowered it 5-10C pending room temperature.

Hope that helps.

Hi MrHamm, thnaks for your reply!

I thought that would be the case. Unfortunatly, both of the monitors use HDMI, and so unless I use an adaptor It isnt feasble. And I would rather not use any adaptors to be honest. However, I suppose if I would find an HDMI to display lead I could use that instead?

Your suggestion of using a low profile cheaper card as a secondary is actually quite interesting, I hadnt thought of that. =) I think I have a PCI-e x16 free, I'll take a look when I get home. If I do I shall look into getting one of these cheaper cards. Any suggestions as to what to get? I wouldnt have thought it would really matter that much. However I will probably be watching HD film on the secondary, so maybe a GT210 is out of the question. =P

Thanks!

i don't have ebay access at work =(

I know what you mean. I game only on my 27inch monitor. I had 2 23inch monitors on the left and right previously which was hooked up to my GT610 just for 2D applications.

Left monitor was for forum, webpages, VENT, etc
Right monitor I had CPU-Z, Core Temps, GPU-Z, PrecisionX, etc

Sidenote: GT610 has 2 DVI which is fine for me and a Mini-HDMI -make sure you get HDMI and not Mini-HDMI. Since you said your monitor only supports HDMI.

No ebay at work, bummer. I dont think I'm meant to go on it, they just dont bother abnning it. Lol.

I wish I could afford to have 3 monitors. Unfortunatly the monitors I'm going for are a bit pricey. Not too pricey, but pricey enough. At the minute I have an AOC I2757Fh 27", and am going to buy an AOC i2367Fh 23" to go next to it. They both have the same styling so it's ideal, plus I dont want to get another 27", cus it'd just be wasted. =P But ideally I would like to get 2 of the 23" ones, one for either side like you have. Ah well. Maybe in the future.

A mini HDMI wouldnt be a problem, I actually have a HDMI to Mini HDMI cable left over from a previous build. =)
