Im building a gaming rig and wanted your opinions on it
i7 2600k
Asus z68 v pro
Corsair Vengeance 2x2gb
Corsair h80
Seasonic S12II620 Bronze (non modular)

Is the cpu good for current and future gaming or should i look into something else? How many years am i looking at for next cpu+mobo upgrade

Solution
The asus mb with a bios update can take at a latter time an ib CPU. Right now the sb..ib and haswell CPU will be fine for a few years of gaming. Where your rig hurts itself it using older pci 2.0 mb. Myself I try use micro center or an online combo deal for a non k chip and a mini h mb that has four dimm slots and can do sli and haswell CPU. You don't need to overclock the CPU. Save your money there and use a evo 212 cooler and put the money on Ssd or better gpu.

Forgot to mention that i have a asus direct cu2 7970. Isnt pci gen 2 good enough? why shouldnt i overclcok my cpu?

When you look at the total build dollars and parts you get more bang with a higher end gpu in games then pushing a CPU higher in an overclock. With pci 3.0 slot the slot has a higher bandwidth then the older 2.0 slot.
Right now today gpu can't hit the max speed but in a year or two the new cards might.
