Hi, Thank you for reading this.

I've built several computers in my day but I've never seen something quite like this. It almost seems like a MoBo short but I'm not sure.

I just did a build for my brother, and he says that while he was operating it under low load - streaming music - It shut down immediately as if it experienced power failure. Upon trying to reboot what it does is it flashes the power light once, and then Immediately shuts off - no display, no beeps on board to my knowledge. Then, after this first failure, it won't boot at all until the power supply is disconnected or shut off and back on, although it sustains Green LED on the board. Is this just a bad power supply or could this be a sign of a short on the motherboard? I need to resolve this sooner than later so that I don't miss the RMA window at Newegg.

Solution
Hi,

I suspect the psu has been damaged by the storm, test with another known working PSU.

But it could also damage the mobo:

If you get a psu that works, get the memory out of the mobo and try to boot. If you have a pc speaker plug in you should hear beeps if the mobo / cpu and ok.
