The Gigabyte 7770 OC and a DVI-D Monitor. Both are dual link and I just need to know the right cord to connect them.

I've searched the forums and I've seen many mixed answers.

Should I use a DVI-D cable, DVI-I cable? Or will it matter? Also, it should be male to male right?

Thanks, playing at 1680 x 1050.

DVI-I is simply DVI-D + DVI-A. You can connect a DVI-D cable to a DVI-I connector without issue as long as they're both dual link. You would only have issues if you tried to connect a dual-link cable to a single-link connector, or DVI-A/DVI-I cable to a DVI-D connector (which are incredibly rare)

if the card or screen lacks the extra pins that the DVI-I has, just use DVI-D. Some screens DO lack the extra 4 pins and do not allow a DVI-I cable to fit.

Since your screen is 1680 x 1050, a single link dvi-d will work just fine.

The DVI-I port allows digital or analog signal while the DVI-S allows ONLY digital.

Yeah the 7770 has the extra pins but the monitor does not.
I'm guessing this will work then:

yeah, that is a dual link(based on image, some reviews seem to say it is single link. Single link is good upto 1920 x 1200, so you are still good.) DVI-D and will work fine.

The extra pins on the card are used for
1. DVI -> VGA adapters
2. OLD analog dvi screens

So if it ends up being a single link, it would still work fine?

A DVI-I port will work with a DVI-D device. No adapter is required. You should also start a new thread as you likely have a different issue.
