I am unable to run games smoothly with my pc.
I did find a trick to play far cry 3 maxed out dx11 etc. my changing d3d (directx ) from 0 to 1" on gamerprofile.xml.. i never get below 60fps.But i can't do this on my other games.
What i want to know is what's the direct problem and how to permanently solve it.
Reward given no bs.

You should only get the odd problem running games on workstation graphics cards, not the odd game only that will run. Where to start? Its a little beyond my experience! See if you can find some desktop drivers that are compatible with the graphics card as opposed to workstation oriented ones,. It may sound unusual, but I actually run agp drivers on my pci-e card as i have a hybrid board. So anything is possible.

The Mars II is essentially 2 GTX 580s on a single PCB. This is not a workstation class GPU.

Other than the CPU, what else is overclocked (memory, GPU)?

When operating, what are the max temps for the CPU and GPUs at idle and under load?

Just the cpu is overclocked for now. I do run gpuz) temps do get hot . 44 degrees solid on gpu1, gpu 2 is 56/57 at idle. Not sure why the fans seem ok.
Under load im guessing these gpus get hot.
but that problem doesnt jutify why when i change a number in notepad i get 60fps flat for hours upon hours.

If I remember correctly Tom's pretty much wrote this card off as a waste of money ( tho in sli) for exactly this issue. They had pics of it (infra red heat camera)
Showing the front gpu chip glowing like hades. I may be mistaken;
( I take little notice of several 100 $ components apart from the fact this was a slagging off). If that IS the case I would approach invidia for some sort of exchange solution. If its not stable at stock with YOUR settup, its
not suitable for purpose, and you should get a refund. You are the guy who lays down for the best but this doesnt even work. You could dismantle the card and tim clean and re paste both gpu's, vram chips etc first (half hour job) which would give you a clue if its a silly error like no paste on the front chip or not enough, or loose screws on the heatsink etc..You could UNDER clock the card, in degrees; to say 30%. This would give you leverage in a dispute as if it is stable @ lower speeds there is a design/assembly problem. I have stressed I am no expert in hi end gear ( tightwad) .You are approaching this with the mindset you are at fault and have missed something. I dont believe this to be the case. Leave the side panel/s off and point a 50 watt 12 inch 240 volt household fan at the card and try it. If it runs fine, its nothing you have done and you can rma it for something ELSE.

BTW, the maximum power draw CARD ONLY is 729 watts. Thats an awful lot of heat to dissipate, and its easy to see how it could go wrong. Its 4.5 x your cpu heat.
In fact, it costs 8 pence an hour in electricity! Turn the radiator off in the winter. .

Dropping in another high-end GPU and checking the results would do the same as chris000 is suggesting as well (if the Mars II is the issue).

If under warranty still, I would not recommend disassembling. Rather, I would seek an RMA for return/exchange.

Its not under warranty at least i dont think so.
I have ordered compressed air but have never used it.
any tuts for asus mars 2 dust filtering?
I know giving money isn't needed but i really want this issue resolved, and will donate here or another site.

Seems you do have an airflow/cooling issue. Removing the case cover dropped your temps a fair amount. A case with good airflow will handle this better. Look at the cleanliness of your rig, as well as the placement and airflow direction of your case fans. Also, look at any obstructions that will limit airflow.

Regarding the GPU itself, it is possible that you have a problem there as well. The temp difference between GPU1 and GPU2 could indicate a problem that simple cleaning and better airflow may not fix.

If you had access to a GTX580/680/690 etc, it would be interesting to drop it in the rig and see how the system performs. Also, what make/model of PSU are you using?

Agreed (on the BIOS update). The questions were asked earlier regarding system/driver/OS updates. Answers have not been provided.

Heat/temperature management/airflow can contribute to GPU performance as well and appears to be an issue here as well. Likely not the main culprit, but adding to the overall issue.

I really would like to know what PSU is being used as well. Keep in mind, not all PSUs are created equally regardless of the wattage rating on their labels.

I have updated bios to latestfor a couple months now .
My Psu is enermax max revo 1500 watt.
Yh just by changing a digit in notepad i get smooth gameplay otherwise its like 5fps, mega weird. The heat issue affects fps a bit but isnt the main problem like youve guessed.
