Three monitor display issue

Hey all,
I have been remotely helping a buddy who just had a custom studio computer built. We purchased a Gigabyte GV-R775OC-2GI graphics card with intention on doing a 3 monitor setup in his studio. As of right now, when trying to enable the third monitor through native windows settings, we get an error "Unable to save display settings". When doing the same thing through the AMD VECC it says we have to disable one of the existing monitors in order to enable the third.

I suppose it's entirely possible that this particular card simply doesn't support 3 monitors, as everything I have read has been pretty vague, but I am hoping it is just some quirky nonsense instead. Telling him he needs to return the card and get a new one has a significant chance of the computer ending up on fire, as he isn't the most tech savvy individual.

Steps taken:
- bounced to all sorts of ports using different cables and such (on and off the video card)
- tried lowering the main desktop resolution to match the extended displays

Current display configuration (all directly to card, i.e. nothing to mobo):
DVI > DVI
DVI > DVI
VGA > VGA

Current build:
CPU: AMD A10-6800K
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-F2A85X-UP4
RAM: 2x8GB Crucial DDR3 1866
GPU: Gigabyte GV-R775OC-2GI
OS: 64-bit Windows 8 OEM

Notes:
I do not know the specific model numbers of the monitors in question, but I do know that two of them are the same exact make and model Dell, if its of any consequence.

Any help you have to offer is much appreciated!

Displayport is the only way to have 3+ monitors on amd cards. Since your card doesn't have it, you can only have 2. But since you do have an apu, you can use the igpu. This will not be using dual graphics. In your bios, under peripherals, set integrated graphics to force. The third monitor should be plugged into a mobo connection. There is no other options to change except windows monitor settings if you want to change the position.
you should be able to keep the igpu on your APU working, and plug that monitor into the mb, for a quick and easy solution... don't worry about duplicating resolution, if the monitor is detected properly you can chose its resolution independent from the others.

The problem with your card is you need an ACTIVE display port adaptor to get the 3rd monitor to show up. Something like this http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DP2DVIS-DisplayPort-Active-Adapter/dp/B004SUO1GM

a quick google search turned up a small guide on active/passive display ports and why you need an active adaptor, something to read if you have questions. But i'll sum it up for you, basically your video card only supports 2 passive connections.... to add a 3rd monitor you need an active adaptor.

The VECC doesn't even see the monitor in question when its plugged into the mobo; suggesting that maybe I need to do something specific to turn on the hybrid crossfire between the APU and the video card

And I have read in a couple posts that switching from a passive to an active adapter fixes their issue, but this particular video card doesn't even have a DisplayPort in the first place. Here is a link to the manufacturers page:

Will enabling the mobo output fix the original issue? Like I said, I can't do any of this stuff in person, so trying it will have to wait until my buddy has the time to get me on the phone and walk him through it, but I do appreciate the responses.

ugh... you're right. it's hdmi.

the problem is i think that card only support 2 digital passive adaptors. which means the hdmi+1 dvi or 2 dvi adaptors (it's dvi-d, which is digital), which means you need to use the VGA adaptor as your 3rd monitor (i think). Thats only if your card supports 3 monitors. I can find nothing that claims it does. If using a vga doesn't work, i'd work on using your igpu on the APU to make the 3rd monitor work.

No to use 3 monitors on one card you will need an Active displayport to DVI adapter.

ati cards only support 2 legacy outputs at a time unless its an older multi monitor card, to enable the third monitor you need to use an active display port to (port type) adapter.

Okay. I will try this later tonight when dude gets off of work. When I set up my system a couple years ago, I could do 3 monitors with basically no effort (two in the gpu, one out the mobo). The hybrid crossfire seemed to work right out of the box, bios preconfigured, and everything else, so I figured we wouldnt have an issue during this current build; but if for whatever reason this particular BIOS doesn't enable the hybrid setting or force displays at defualt, it makes perfect sense why it wont work.

I will update this post later with my findings, but I do appreciate everyones help. Let's hope I don't drive myself crazy trying to walk a computer illiterate person through BIOS config XD

I finally got my buddy on the phone and we successfully got his three monitors to work. With this particular BIOS, I needed to set the internal outputs to 'force'.

Only caveat: upon startup, VECC asks you to enable Dual Graphics to increase performance. Saying yes will disable the MOBO output ports, but presumably act as a HXF. Disabling Dual Graphics will allow the MOBO to output and voila; the screens.

Thank you to k1114, mauller07, and ingtar33 for all of your assistance.
