fullscreen FPS problems with watching videos and video games

When i play any video game on fullscreen on my first monitor and a video (vlc, youtube, anything) on my second then the video on the second monitor goes to a very low FPS. this never happened before as well. help?

Are you perhaps playing a more resource intensive game right now and it's hogging up too much to both play games and video smoothly at the same time? Are both the game and videos on the same harddrive and it's taking time to go back and forward to read it all?

they are both technically on the same hard drive but due to windows being crap with 3tb hard drives it identifies them as 2 separate ones. i'll try putting them on the same half of the hard drive, thanks for the suggestion I'll see if it works.

If you have a flash drive that is quick enough to play the video you might want to try that in order to cut any kind of extra reading on the hard drive out of the equation. If it does it while streaming video online though that shouldn't be touching the hard drive either. If your on a laptop make sure your system didn't get kicked into some low power state and the CPU is being throttled. In fact you may want to monitor your CPU usage while doing that and make sure it's not being used up.

Glad I could help, hopefully everything runs smoothly for you in the future. Might want to look into an SSD to run the OS and games off of and use that 3TB drive for large data.

Yeah i thought about it before i built my now month old computer but this hard drive is pretty quick as it is, it starts up in about 20 seconds and loads games in about 10. maybe for my next build..

little late due to me only figuring it out now, but it's a resource thing. you have to set the video player to use a more gpu intensive video codec to play the videos while you are gaming. you will lose some fps in games, but your video won't look like chopped shit (found out with a gtx 780 and using vlc media player)
