Issue with webcam in windows 8

My Lifecam hd-3000 is detected by Windows 8, it's in device manager in Imaging Devices. All drivers and software are up to date. It works perfectly with the official Camera App, but that's it. No other app / website seems to work with the webcam. I think there is an issue with the permissions or something like that.

The audio / microphone seems to work perfect with everything though, yet video is an issue, and often skype says the webcam is being used in another program so can't be used, even though no such service / program is using the webcam.

Both Skype desktop and metro do not work, nor does Google+ on Google Chrome. Strange that it works in the Camera App but no where else.

Please help as this has been going on for a long time now.

Thanks.

I had the same problem with my webcam built into my Asus monitor with Windows 8. In fact it never worked correctly until I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and now it works correctly and did not even install drivers for it just Windows 8.1 built in drivers.

I might try installing the 8.1 beta in that case. I'll let you know if I do and what's the outcome.
Thanks.

I just installed windows 8.1 on Acer Aspire V73 and now i can use Skype on;y when disabling webcam on the laptop. So I am not convinced by these pro windows 8.1 stories. Somewhere someone made something incompatible

My C525 stopped working. It will work normally the first time I use it after rebooting, but trying to use it again after that gets me a black screen. I think there's something buggy in 8.1 somewhere.
