Laptop SSD upgrade

Ok so I have a y580 with a 32gb msata ssd cache and a 5400rpm 1tb HDD. I have 2 Samsung 830's in raid 0 on my desktop and am very happy with the speeds, and want to get that in my laptop.

I want to know your opinions on if I should just get a 256 ssd and exchange it for my HDD or get an 256 msata ssd so I can use my 1tb drive also.

I don't really have a need for 1tb, and currently have only 120gb used.

What is the performance of msata compared to regular sata? would I get better battery if I get rid of the 1tb HDD?

thanks

I have two otherwise identical lappies here in the office

No. 1 has a 128 GB SSD and a 7200 rpm HD
No. 2 has a 7200 rpm hybrid SSD / HD (Momentus XT 750 GB 7200 rpm)

So far, no one can tell them apart booting to windows, using AutoCAD or in gaming.

So it would be possible to use the msata as a separate drive to load my OS AND use some of it for cache of my 1TB? will there be any performance impacts on the msata?

I was looking at some benchmarks of the crucial m4 msata vs a sata Samsung 840 pro. crucial has about ~200MB/s write speeds while the Samsung can achieve ~500MB/s. would this be noticeable enough difference to justify switching out my 1tb HDD(I doubt I will need that much storage anyways) and use the Samsung 840pro?

also are there any better msata drives?
